What is
“Empowered Education”?
Empowered Education holds that the foundation of all learning is each individual’s innate curiosity. Empowered learners put this premise into practice:
-
a High school student takes her junior year off to travel in Guatemala and take community college classes;
-
a 13-year old who has never been to school, self-teaches astronomy, performs violin, and assists with surgeries as an animal hospital volunteer;
-
a 34-year old post office worker researches and writes a book on Lewis & Clark in his free time.
The concept of Empowered Education emerges from the tension between the learning process as practiced by an independent individual and systematic institutionalized schooling.
